The Lone Barone is the 9th episode of Season 3, and is episode 56 of the full 210 episodes for the entire series. In this episode, Ray tells Robert about the difficult times in marriage, which causes Robert to break up with Amy.

Episode Information[]

Synopsis[]

Robert is settling in to his new apartment. But when his girlfriend Amy comes over to check out the new place, she starts rearranging furniture and hinting at marriage.

After hearing horror stories from Ray about marriage, Robert freaked out. When Amy realized he was freaking out, she broke up with Robert.

Running Gags[]

Ray, as always, refers to Debra with some funny nickname. This time it was "Auntie Em".

Trivia[]

Actress Patricia Heaton was pregnant at the time of filming for this episode, so she did not appear in many of the shots. And when she did, she either wore big, baggy clothing or held an object in front of her to cover up the pregnant belly.

This is also the first time the viewer gets to see Robert's apartment.

The dog Shamsky also makes an appearance.

Actor and comedian Kevin James had recently gotten his own new show, "The King of Queens", on CBS in which he played a delivery man for IPS, the International Parcel Service. In this episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, he guest stars as his character, Doug Heffernan, from "The King of Queens". It was part of a number of cross-over episodes CBS was doing with their primetime sitcoms: Everybody Loves Raymond, The King of Queens, Cosby, The Nanny, and Becker.

Production Notes[]

  • Today's reruns feature an alternate version of the Where's Lunch dish from Neighbors, with the dish turned 180 degrees.

Status of Robert and Amy's Relationship[]

After they had been dating for nearly 2 years, Amy breaks up with Robert because he's too afraid of commitment. (see main article: Robert and Amy's relationship)

Quotes[]

  • Ray: Why do we need curtains in the bedroom anyway? It's not like anyone's ever naked in there!
      • Robert: "You might want to cinch that robe. You got a little fruit coming out of the loom."
  • Ray: This is my life now, I'm a hostage. I'm trapped, trapped inside these four (counts the walls) all the walls here in this area!
  • Ray: I'm as happy as she lets me be! I eat what she lets me eat, I sleep when she let's me sleep, and the only reason she keeps me alive is to open jars and kill bugs.
  • Robert: I know you, you wouldn't trade this for anything!
  • Ray: I'll trade it all right now for a pack of cigarettes.
  • Ray: you know what I'm doing tomorrow night? I'm going to see a movie.
  • Robert: what's wrong with that?
  • Ray: Debra's movie! You know the one with the mother, who has the condition, and the daughter learned to care for the mother who has the condition, who wants to see that snifflebag? I wanted to see the one, the one with all the guns, and the car chases, and the nudity that had no meaning!
  • Robert: I saw that one, it was good.
  • Ray: Yeah, rub it in. Why don't you spank a supermodel in front of me!
  • Ray: Just let the world know I'm still n here!
  • Ray: Doug!
  • Doug: Hey Ray, saved the best for last.
  • Ray: I can't believe it's you, I was just hating you!
  • Doug: I get that a lot.
  • Marie: I think you're being selfish, Robbie.
  • Robert: Good! It's about time, because this is my life. Not yours, not yours, not yours, and not even Raymond's!
  • Ray: I don't know why you're mad at me, I said some very nice things today.
  • Debra: You're right, you were very touching. You know it is nice, every once in a while, for a wife to hear that her husband wants to spank a supermodel.
  • Ray: I don't want to, sometimes they're naughty!
